Triglav (2 864 m) is the highest mountain in Slovenia and the Julian Alps. While its name, meaning "three-headed", can describe its shape as seen from the valley of Bohinj, the mountain may have been named after the Slavic god Triglav, although this hypothesis remains disputed, as the deity is not well understood and it is not documented whether it was ever worshipped in the area. At the top of the mountain stands a small metal structure, the Aljaž Tower (Slovene: Aljažev stolp), symbolic of Slovene territorial sovereignty and a national symbol itself.
