The job economy in Ottawa-Gatineau added jobs in recent months. In the month of June they experienced a 4800 job gain and in July around 3900 jobs were added. After months of less than respectable numbers this is a well desired turn of events. Healthy growth across a range of public sector employers has offset a weakening technology sector. The national unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage points to 6.1 per cent because the number of people seeking work also declined. Ottawa-Gatineau's numbers stood in contrast to the national statistics, which showed that the Canadian economy lost 55,000 jobs in July. The Statistics Canada report said. Employment gains have averaged 10,000 per month in 2008 compared with an average monthly gain of 30,000 for 2007, The Ottawa-Gattneau jobless rate is the 2nd lowest in Canada. Quebec City holds the lowest rating.
