The Larry Sanders Show is an Emmy Award- and Peabody Award-winning satirical television sitcom that originally aired from August 1992 to May 1998 on the HBO cable television network in the United States. It starred stand-up comedian Garry Shandling as vain, neurotic talk show host Larry Sanders, and centered around the running of his TV show, and the many people behind the scenes. It is notable for featuring celebrities as themselves (often parodying themselves) and its character-based humour, which is similar to other popular shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Extras.
The series, in which Shandling used his experience as a guest host on The Tonight Show, is ranked by various critics and fans alongside Seinfeld as one of the best TV comedies of the 1990s. The series also ranked #38 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time and was included in Time magazine's list of the "100 Best TV Shows of All Time." http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/completelist/0,,1651341,00.html
Larry Sanders (born in New York) is an Oxfordshire County Councillor. He has lived in Oxford since 1969. He was trained professionally as a social worker and lawyer. He is an employee and trustee of the Oxfordshire Carers' Forum and Oxfordshire Community Care Rights since 1996.
His main focuses in politics are social and health care services. Elected in 2005, he became the Green Party councillor group leader in the Oxfordshire County Council. He resigned from the board of the Oxfordshire Mental Healthcare NHS Trust in October 2005 in a principled stand amid concerns that proposed cuts to services will leave vulnerable patients at greater risk.
His brother, Bernie Sanders, is U.S. Senator for the state of Vermont. His son, Jacob Sanders, used to be a councillor on the Oxford City Council.
